Water Smart Summer Activities

Summer is quickly approaching and we are gearing towards another high-usage water month. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), water demand is 2-4 times higher during the summer than it is the rest of the year. This summer, we want to encourage San Jose residents to be mindful of water conservation. Playing around water and using it to cool off is great, but there are still ways to be water smart. Here’s a quick guide to some water smart summer activities that you may enjoy.

Where does San Jose water come from?

The easy answer is that it comes from the sky. But, where does your water really come from? Surprisingly, California residents enjoy water from all over the state depending on the area in which you live. As a whole, about 30% of California’s total water supply comes from groundwater. This number goes up to about 60% during a drought.

Earlier today, San Jose Water's CEO Eric W. Thornburg and President and COO Andrew Gere were joined by Los Gatos Mayor Rob Rennie, and Santa Clara Valley Water District Director Gary Kremen to unveil the SJW's newest, state-of-the-art water treatment facility. The ceremony included HDR Constructor's President Doug Lisak, HDR as the design-build partner helped to bring this project through design and construction and has supported it's return to operation.

San Jose Water Introduces New CEO

Today, marks the beginning of a new era for San Jose Water as Eric Thornburg takes the reins from Rich Roth, SJW’s retiring Chief Executive Officer.  Rich was President and CEO of SJW Group, our parent company, for more than 20 years. Eric comes to our company with 35 years of experience in the water industry. Most recently he served as the President and CEO of Connecticut Water Service, Inc.  He also worked for American Water Works Corporation and Missouri-American Water.
