SJW follows a certain procedure for owners and contractors wishing to install new, relocate or upsize water service for 3” and smaller services. The bullets below outline our process.
The owner or applicant must submit a completed SJW Water Service Questionnaire along with a site and/or improvement plans and fire sprinkler calculations (if applicable) for the project.
SJW sizes the service, determines backflow requirements, and sends a construction agreement to the applicant with a cover letter explaining the procedure necessary to process the service request for installation. This takes approximately 2-3 weeks.
Once the owner or applicant signs the agreements and pays for the service, the project is sent to the SJW Construction Department who will schedule a site visit, apply for an encroachment permit and schedule the installation. This takes approximately 6-10 weeks.
