SAN JOSE, Calif., March 16, 2020 – San Jose Water (“SJW” or “the Company”), a wholly-owned subsidiary of SJW Group (NYSE: SJW), announced today COVID-19 related precautions that it is taking to protect the health and safety of employees, customers, and the community while continuing to deliver safe and reliable water service.

Andy Gere, President of San Jose Water, stated, “Our priority is to keep everyone safe while continuing\ to deliver safe and reliable drinking water. San Jose Water has well established emergency contingency and business continuity plans that anticipate and address extraordinary situations such as COVID-19. We can deliver uninterrupted service while protecting the health and safety of our employees, customers, and the community.”

Among the measures taken:

  • In alignment with Santa Clara County’s directive to use social distancing, groups of San Jose Water employees began working remotely on March 13, 2020.
  • Beginning Monday, March 16, the Company’s Customer Service office at 110 West Taylor Street will be closed to the public. Customer Service staff is available to assist by phone or by emailing customer.service@sjwater.com.
  • In-home, non-essential service appointments have been cancelled for the time being.

Suspension of service shut-offs


In addition, San Jose Water has suspended shut-offs for non-payment until further notice so that all
customers continue to have water service.

Safety of Drinking Water

Customers should know that the drinking water supply is not a known source of COVID-19. According to a March 3, 2020 technical report issued by the World Health Organization, “The COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking water supplies, and based on current evidence, the risk to water supplies is low.” Americans can continue to use and drink water from their taps as usual (per the EPA).

San Jose Water will continue to monitor developments related to COVID-19, including information from the Centers for Disease Control and recommendations from local government agencies. Customers can visit sjwater.com for updated information regarding our COVID-19 precautions.
