HomeServe provides optional protection plans for homeowners should a leak or breakage occur on their service line. Many customers are not aware that they are responsible for the water and sewer service lines that connect their meters to their homes. Protection plans from HomeServe are optional and will not affect your utility service. See the FAQs below for more information.

Why is SJW working with HomeServe?

San Jose Water wants its customers to be informed about their options in the case of an emergency. We encourage customers to learn more to determine if this product would benefit them. HomeServe provides support for emergency home repairs. It is not operated by San Jose Water.

Is SJW endorsing HomeServe?

Based on our research, we believe HomeServe is a solid and reputable company. They are currently working with dozens of utilities both locally and nationwide to offer protection plans. Many we spoke with provided positive comments about the company. We encourage customers to learn more about their product. Again, the product is completely optional and will not affect utility service.

Has SJW provided customer information to HomeServe?

We do not provide customer information to HomeServe. The company secures customer information from publicly available data sources independently from San Jose Water. All customers who receive the offer are provided instructions on how to remove their names from future mailings.

Isn’t the utility responsible for my service line?

Per the California Public Utilities Commission regulations, San Jose Water is responsible for providing water service to the customer’s meter. The customer is responsible for the pipe (service line) that runs from the meter to their house.

Is this plan required for SJW customers?

No. It is an optional protection plan available to customers. Those interested in protecting themselves from the inconvenience and potential high cost of water and sewer line repairs may benefit from learning more about the product.
