SJW Bolsters Infrastructure with Upgrades to Reservoirs, Water Mains and Hydrants
The first six months of 2025 include projects expected to improve reliability for years to come.
SAN JOSE, Calif. - July 31, 2025 - San Jose Water (“SJW” or “the Company”), a wholly owned subsidiary of H2O America (NASDAQ: HTO), has announced progress on several engineering projects that will bolster reliable water delivery within its service area. In the first half of the year, the company replaced 12.4 miles of aging water mains, installed new and replacement fire hydrants to enhance fire protection, and made targeted improvements to critical water storage facilities.
These investments are guided by SJW’s Asset Management Program, which uses a cutting-edge AI model to prioritize projects based on each asset’s unique probability and consequence of failure. By uncovering patterns and risks that traditional analysis might miss, the model ensures resources are deployed where they will deliver the greatest benefit to customers and the community.
“SJW’s continued infrastructure improvements represent our commitment to customers today but also anticipates needs for the next 100 years and beyond,” said Tanya Moniz-Witten, president of San Jose Water. “Our expert teams are dedicated to providing reliable, high-quality water service to our community. To do so, we leverage evolving technology to methodically and continuously deliver efficient, creative, and timely system upgrades to ensure the flow of water to our customers.”
The following are updates on a few of the many infrastructure projects SJW worked on during the first half of the year:
Seven Mile Station
Construction is underway at SJW’s Seven Mile Station in Los Gatos, a key water storage and pumping facility that plays an essential role in delivering reliable service to the community. This major upgrade addresses several aging components, including the replacement of a 67-year-old redwood retaining wall with a more durable structure made of concrete piles, steel beams, and pressure-treated wood. These improvements will extend the life of the facility, reduce long-term maintenance costs, and help prevent water loss during emergencies. The project also includes upgrades to critical valves and safety features, such as improved vault access, new stairways, and a wider walkway to ensure a safer environment for crews. Once completed in late 2025, this investment will significantly strengthen the resilience and reliability of the water system for customers.
Humboldt Street Main Replacement
SJW recently completed a critical water main replacement project along Humboldt Street and Hollywood Avenue in downtown San Jose, replacing about 3,000 feet of undersized cast iron pipe dating back to 1913 with modern ductile iron pipe. This pipe is stronger, more durable, and better suited to meet current water system pressures and reliability standards. The project also included the installation of six new fire hydrants and the replacement of 70 service connections, significantly enhancing water reliability and fire protection in the area. This effort was completed in close collaboration with the City of San Jose’s Fire Department, which identified the neighborhood as needing improved fire flow.
Ravenwood Drive Water Main & Hydrant

A recent SJW project on Ravenwood Drive in Saratoga replaced about 1,100 feet of water mains that had reached the end of their useful life. The work included the installation of two new fire hydrants and upgrades to 25 service connections, enhancing both water reliability and fire protection for the neighborhood.
Due to complex connection points, the project required thoughtful, creative engineering solutions, and the team completed the work with minimal disruption to residents. Now fully in service, the upgraded mains are expected to provide safe, dependable water delivery for the next 100 years.
Sonuca Avenue Main Replacement
In the City of Campbell, SJW recently completed a major water main replacement project along Sonuca Avenue and the surrounding neighborhood. The project replaced more than 4,000 feet of aging water mains, significantly improving reliability and system performance for the area. As part of the upgrade, eight new fire hydrants were installed and 100 service connections were replaced, enhancing both fire protection and day-to-day service for customers. The scale of this project required close coordination across teams and careful planning to minimize disruption in this residential area.
