SJW Construction Stoppage

In order to follow the state and county shelter-in-place order, as well as to protect the health of our employees per CDC public health guidelines, we are suspending all non-emergency construction activity requiring field support by our engineering and construction teams until further notice. This includes water main replacement projects and nearly all other planned capital improvements. Projects currently underway are being brought to a safe and secure stopping point.

Investing in Our Water System Today

Building for the Next Century

Making sure that our customers have safe, clean and reliable water service means that our water system must be maintained and upgraded as time goes by. In our approximately 140 square mile service area, there are 2,400 miles of water mains, 106 tank and reservoirs, 20,143 hydrants, and 35,143 valves - that’s a lot of infrastructure to maintain!

San Jose Water – Protecting our Employees While Keeping the Water Flowing During COVID-19

While we are committed to providing clean drinking water to the communities and families that we serve, we wanted to also let everyone know of the steps we are taking to keep our employees safe.

As part of normal operations, we plan for emergencies such as earthquakes and wildfires. We have business continuity plans in place to make sure our operations are maintained in the face of adversity. COVID-10 has created some unique challenges.  Below are some details of critical steps to keep our employees safe:

SJW Crew Digs for a Time Capsule

Hacienda Environmental Science Magnet Elementary School, a longtime Adopt-A-School partner, recently called SJW for help. Our Distribution Systems (DS) department responded with an enormous digging expedition!

The school has a unique one-acre Outdoor Classroom, which is celebrating a milestone golden anniversary. It all started 50 years ago when a teacher and supporting parents desired to convert a cement parking lot into a learning space.

2020 San Jose Water Rates

SJW understands your concerns about recent rate increases and changes to your water bill*. Therefore, we’ve created a sample bill comparison that identifies the changes to your bill in 2019.

We fully encourage and applaud our customers’ efforts to reduce their water consumption, as this will always be a vital step in combating drought in this region. However, water conservation is unrelated to the funding required to replace, repair and maintain the infrastructure that delivers reliable, clean, high quality water to your home.
