San Jose Water and San Jose Conservation Corps Partner to Expand Hands-On Job Training Opportunities
SAN JOSE, Calif. — [August 20 2026] — San Jose Water today announced a new collaboration with the San Jose Conservation Corps (SJCC) to provide corpsmembers with hands-on experience in water utility operations, vegetation management and environmental stewardship through a long-term workforce development partnership.
Through the partnership, SJCC workers will learn specialized skills not commonly available through traditional entry-level pathways, including tree care, field safety, wildfire resilience and work on protected watershed land. Corpsmembers will gain practical experience alongside San Jose Water teams and contractors while building skills that can support future careers in skilled trades, environmental work and utility operations.
San Jose Water also plans to introduce SJCC to its Wildland Urban Interface and Forestry programs, giving corpsmembers exposure to the company’s broader work in vegetation management, wildfire risk reduction and watershed protection. These experiences will help participants understand how field-based skills can contribute to public safety, reliable water service and environmental resilience.
The collaboration reflects both organizations’ shared commitment to preparing local workers for future opportunities while supporting the community through meaningful, field-based work.
“This partnership gives corpsmembers direct exposure to the work behind reliable water service, from caring for our watershed to strengthening wildfire resilience,” said Tanya Moniz-Witten, President of San Jose Water. “By working alongside our teams, participants can build practical skills that support future careers while helping protect the communities we serve.”
"We are grateful for San Jose Water’s partnership in expanding technical career pathways for corpsmembers," said Dorsey Moore, CEO of San Jose Conservation Corps. "Gaining practical experience in utility operations and watershed management creates opportunities for local young adults to do the work that transforms both their own futures and the environment around them."
