Our Operations, Treatment, and Watershed teams have completed a cross-functional review of El Niño preparedness and confirmed that core storm-response processes remain in place. Priority areas include generator readiness, drainage and culvert inspections, reservoir and dam assessments, sump pump checks, and updates to seasonal storm-response checklists to reflect current assets and operating practices.
- Being proactive is critical. The team is formalizing triggers for pre-storm creek intake closures, allowing crews to complete critical work safely before hazardous conditions develop.
- Additional focus has been placed on monitoring dam infrastructure, maintaining required operating limits, and preparing for erosion or sediment-related impacts during major storm events. We will also be revisiting our reservoir release schedule to provide capacity for storm events.
- Watershed planning emphasizes increased inspections, potential access restrictions during heavy rainfall, and alternate access routes. Contractor readiness has also been reviewed, with multiple backup resources identified to ensure capacity during widespread storm impacts.
While forecast models indicate El Niño conditions are likely through the winter season, storm intensity and local impacts remain uncertain. Our team will continue monitoring forecast updates and use them to refine preparedness actions as the season approaches.
