Temporary Shutdown of Valley Water’s Santa Teresa Water Treatment Plant and Water Source Change

Date: 3/4/2026
Duration: 8 days (3/16/2026 – 3/24/26)
Affected Areas: Zones impacted include but are not limited to:  Belgatos, Greenridge, Highlands, Harwood Court, Santa Rosa, Via Campagna, Montego, Kyburz, Webb Canyon, Glenview, Cheim, Scenic Vista, Graystone Heights, Vista De Almaden, and Cahalan.

San Jose Water remains committed to providing a safe and reliable water supply.
As part of ongoing system improvements by our wholesale water provider, Valley Water, the Santa Teresa Water Treatment Plant will undergo a temporary shutdown. This is to allow for essential work, including electrical and mechanical maintenance work for continued plant reliability.

During this time, some affected areas will be sourced from groundwater supplies that are disinfected using free chlorine instead of chloramine. Groundwater naturally contains higher mineral levels, which may lead to increased water hardness.

What to Expect:

  • Disinfection Change: The water will be treated with free chlorine instead of chloramine. Some customers may notice a temporary difference in taste and odor.
  • Water Hardness Increase: Groundwater contains higher levels of calcium and magnesium, which may result in more noticeable mineral deposits on fixtures and appliances.
  • Continued Water Safety: The water will continue to meet or exceed all state and federal drinking water standards.

Customer Considerations:

  • No action is required—your water remains safe to drink and use.
  • Customers with fish tanks, dialysis equipment, or specialized water needs should adjust their treatment systems to accommodate the temporary disinfection change.
  • Appliance & Fixture Care: To reduce mineral buildup, customers may consider using a water softener or descaling agents as needed.
