San Jose Water (SJW) is dedicated to delivering safe, high-quality water to over one million customers across 140 square miles everyday. It is our job to protect our water resources and promote long-term sustainability in our community. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that the average annual water loss rate for utility systems is 16%. Meanwhile, SJW has an average annual water loss rate of approximately 7%.
Did you know that San Jose Water (SJW) regularly tests drinking water for lead in the homes of its customers? We are happy to be able to report that all the water that we serve to our customers meets or surpasses the Federal and State regulations for lead and copper, as well as other parameters.
Starting January 1, 2019 your San Jose Water rates will reflect an increase in water rates recently approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). These new rates reflect an increase in operating costs and significant water system replacement costs for mains, tanks and wells that allow us to continue to provide safe and reliable water service. Effective January 1, 2019, the monthly water charges (service + quantity charges) for the typical residential customer with a 3/4-inch meter using 11 CCF (1 CCF = 748 gallons) will increase by $1.28.
December 18, 2018 UPDATE: Yesterday’s water discoloration incident is being closely monitored by SJW professionals. The initial flushing of mains was completed last night.
If our customers continue to notice any discolored water they are encouraged to flush their lines for up to 15 minutes. Please begin with your external faucets such as hose bibs. Then move inside to your faucets and other plumbing fixtures. Please call our Customer Service Department at (408) 279-7900 if your water does not clear up after flushing.
Located in the foothills of Los Gatos in the southwest corner of Belgatos Park lies an important piece of our water system infrastructure. Belgatos Station previously consisted of 2 earthen embankment reservoirs that stored up to 9.5 million gallons of potable water and served approximately 84,000 people in the San Jose Water service area.
We are pleased to announce that the Montevina Water Treatment Facility has been recognized by the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) with their Innovation award in the water category. NARUC is a non-profit organization representing commissioners across the country who regulate vital utility services like water, electricity, and telecommunications.
