Balancing Accounts

The CPUC requires San Jose Water Company to track certain expenses in "balancing accounts." Balancing account expenses include purchased water costs, groundwater extraction taxes and electric power costs. The purpose of the balancing accounts is to protect both the company and our customers from uncontrollable changes in costs, and to ensure that rates accurately reflect the costs of providing water service.
