Job Title: ATTORNEY
You're invited to join our team of enthusiastic professionals at San Jose Water Company who are working together to create the very best for-profit water distribution utility in the industry.
Our Company: San Jose Water Company is a public utility, providing drinking water service to over 1 million people, and services to other utilities including billing, backflow testing and maintenance. By sharing these services with others, we better serve the local community better, lower the cost of water operations, improve opportunities and lower the cost of water operations.
We are owned by SJW Corp., a publicly traded company listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol SJW. SJW Corp. also owns other subsidiaries that do business in five other states.
In your position as Attorney, you will, under the general direction of the Corporate Secretary/Attorney, be responsible for foreseeing and protecting the Company against legal risks and provide legal advice to the Company.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
In this position you will assist in maintaining corporate records, legal documents and various other records; assist with the development and implementation of a company-wide records retention program; prepare and review contracts involving licenses, easements, releases, purchases, sales and other documents as needed; assist in preparing, proofreading and distributing the annual Director and Officer questionnaire and proxy statement; assist in preparing Section 16 filings and current reports on Form 8-K as well as other SEC filings; assist in preparing Board materials and resolutions; respond to discovery requests and provide legal counsel and guidance.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Education: Juris Doctor in law.
Work Experience: Three years of professional level relevant legal experience.
Specific Knowledge & Skills: Ability to use past experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Ability to manage numerous projects under pressure. Flexible and able to work on a broad variety of legal matters. Experience with Securities and Exchange Commission regulations preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent acumen in business matters.
