Water Audit Program

The cornerstone of our conservation department is the water audit program. San Jose Water Company offers free water audits to single family, multi-family and commercial customers. To schedule your free water audit, please contact our Customer Service Department at 408-279-7900 during business hours, 8:00am - 5:30pm, Monday through Friday. During the water audit, a trained water conservation inspector demonstrates how to read the meter, detects leaks and estimates the volume of any leaks discovered. At the end of the audit, we provide additional conservation tips based on the results of the audit. We also make referrals to other programs, if applicable.

The purpose of a water audit is to educate customers about the wise use of water, and to make their homes and businesses as water efficient as possible. During the water audit we do the following:

Indoors

• Identify leaks.
• Check for inefficient plumbing fixtures and appliances, as well as leaking toilets and faucets.
• Adjust the water level in the toilet tank, if necessary.
• Install complimentary low-flow showerheads and aerators, if needed.

Outdoors

• Show the customer how to read their meter and how to check for leaks.
• If a leak is determined, estimate the amount of water lost.
• Check hoses, pools, fountains and ponds for leaks.
• Review irrigation schedules and make recommendatons if needed.
• Check for broken sprinkler heads and excessive runoff.

Conservation Devices

San Jose Water Company has been distributing free low-flow showerheads and low-flow faucet aerators for more than a decade. These complimentary devices are provided during a water audit appointment or by visiting our main office at 110 W. Taylor Street. Email requests can be made by contacting conservation@sjwater.com

Devices include:

• Low flow showerheads (use 2.5 gallons per minute)
• Kitchen faucet aerators (use 2.2 gallons per minute)
• Bathroom faucet aerators (use 1.5 gallons per minute)
