  Use Water Wisely
The Department of Water Resources (DWR) and US Bureau of Reclamation own and operate pumps in the San Francisco/Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay Delta, associated canals, and storage reservoirs that, collectively, are known as the State Water Project (SWP) and Central Valley Project (CVP), respectively. The SWP and CVP supply water to 25 million Californians and irrigate millions of acres of agricultural land. Concerns about the delta smelt, an endangered fish species, prompted the voluntarily shutdown of the SWP pumps from May 31 through June 9, 2007, and the voluntarily reduction of pumping by the CVP. In light of possible future shutdowns or reduction of pumping, the Santa Clara Valley Water District, which receives half of its supply from the SWP and CVP, is calling for voluntary conservation for the remainder of the year as a precautionary measure. For additional information on the voluntary call for conservation, visit Santa Clara Valley Water District's website.

SJWC encourages customers to use water wisely and offers a full range of conservation services. We believe this is vital to preserving our water supply and has worked to promote wise water use for over a decade.
