Recent Media Reports About Pharmaceuticals in Drinking Water |

SJWC provides high quality drinking water that meets or exceeds all applicable US Environmental Protection Agency and California Department of Public Health regulations. Recent media reports identify the presence of very low levels of pharmaceuticals in some water supplies and question if a health risk may exist. At this time, little is known about the effects of pharmaceuticals in drinking water and their presence does not necessarily mean it's harmful to humans since more research is needed to determine what health risks, if any, exist. SJWC does not test for pharmaceuticals since testing methods are not widely available and are still experimental and under development. We will continue to work with the US Environmental Protection Agency and the California Department of Public Health, agencies responsible for determining new and emerging contaminants, to ensure that our water meets or exceeds all applicable regulations.
