Water Awareness Night 2007

Water Awareness Night Sets Attendance Record

The largest crowd in 20 years turned out on Friday, May 11 for the Sixth Annual Water Awareness Night, held at San Jose Municipal Stadium. Of the 4,827 fans in attendance, nearly 2,900 used complimentary tickets provided by San Jose Water Company. The crowd was the largest to attend a San Jose Giants' game in 20 years, surpassing the 2005 Water Awareness Night attendance of 4,766. A fabulous 15-minute fireworks show followed the contest, which was won by the Giants 3-1 over Lancaster.

About 20 SJWC employee volunteers and their family members greeted guests as they arrived at the game. Customers enjoyed viewing the SJWC crew truck and Water Watcher truck stationed inside the front gate. Hundreds of kids participated in water-related games, including the Raingutter Regatta, the Hydrant Ring Toss and the Toilet Toss. The first 500 kids entering the stadium each received a miniature SJWC vintage water tanker.

Also on hand for the event were the San Jose Water Company Singers who sang the National Anthem and God Bless America during the 7th inning stretch. Crewleader Ralph Gaeta tossed out the first pitch in recognition of his 35 years of service to San Jose Water Company.
