Nearly
400 third-grade students and their parents from the Franklin-McKinley
School District were treated to a special night at the Children's Discovery
Museum on Monday evening, October 28. San Jose Water Company sponsored
the event. More than two dozen employee volunteers provided assistance
in a variety of hands-on activities for the kids, including the preparation
of corn husk dolls and paper clip catapults. Retired police and firefighters
from the City of San Jose provided a special dinner of barbecued hot
dogs, chips and cookies for the guests and the volunteers. City Council
Member Cindy Chavez also assisted in coordinating the event.
In conjunction with the Museum, San Jose Water Company sponsored the
development of a special science curriculum for third graders in the
Franklin-McKinley School District. During October and November, employees
went into the classroom to teach the students about water and the critical
need to use it wisely. The October 28 event was the highlight of this
special program.
