Thanksgiving in JanuaryThanksgiving in January

Just as holiday charitable giving traditionally tapers off in January, San Jose Water Company and Martha’s Kitchen partnered for a second straight year to help alleviate hunger in our community by offering “Thanksgiving in January.” Martha’s Kitchen, a non-profit organization whose mission is to “feed the hungry with dignity; no questions asked, no judgment made,” is in its 30th year of serving the community.

During “Thanksgiving in January,” SJWC funded the cost for over 2,750 meals served during the month. In addition to the meals, the company also provided over 500 care packages to clients of Martha’s Kitchen during the last week of January. These packages were assembled by employee volunteers and contained food and other basic items to further assist the clients in their daily lives.

”Thanksgiving in January” kicked off on January 4, 2011. San Jose Councilmembers Nancy Pyle, Pierluigi Oliverio, Sam Liccardo, Xavier Campos, and Don Rocha were in attendance to support Martha’s Kitchen and to give thanks to SJWC’s generosity. The San Jose Mercury News also covered the event and challenged other local businesses to follow in the company’s lead and become a sponsor for a month in 2011.

For the more fortunate, the privilege of living in Silicon Valley also comes with the added responsibility to give back to the community by supporting its health and vibrancy. SJWC is pleased to support Martha’s Kitchen and this partnership reaffirms the company’s commitment to investing our time, talent, and financial resources to improve the quality of life for all members of the community.
